MUSCLE - BeShare in LAN

System: BeOS, Haiku, Zeta

On BeGeistert is using BeShare in a local network a completely everyday affair. Anyone starts a server and all other can connect to it in order to share and download files.

"But how does this works?"

This is a completely simple thing:

Download MUSCLE (the server) and compile it. Starting the Muscle Server and give the IP to all People who want to connect to it.

You can download the MUSCLE source here.

Unpack the sourcefile and open the Terminal (Zeta: Zetamenu/Software/System/Terminal | BeOS: /boot/apps/Terminal?).:

Change into the "/server" folder in the Unpacked Source ("/muscle") using the command "cd". Enter "cd /Path/to/unpacked/Folder/server" and press enter.

Enter "make" to compile the Source.

Is the compiling process complete you find two bin files in the server folder. These are the Admin App and the Server App (muscled).

To start the server doubleclick the Server App ("muscled"). Better is to start the muscle server over the terminal, because then you close the terminal you will close the server too. Change into the server folder and enter muscled.

If you want to use the "Admin" App enter behind the "muscled" App a "&" in order to use the terminal then the server is running. You can use a other terminal window to do this too.

We dont get closer to the functionality of the admin tool. Please read the documentatiton of Muscle for more informations.

To get your IP Adress enter in the terminal "ifconfig". Copy the IP at position "inet addr: IP-Adresse" and give them to the users.

To connect to the server start BeShare and enter at "Server:" the IP adress.

Open the beshare menu and select at "File" the option "connect to IP adress".

If you start BeShare on the server PC your nickname is not available for the other users. You can share and download files, but the user can only found your files using the search option.
